Summary: Going out for Chinese is an important survival skill. A double drabble.
‘I'm stuffed,’ Owen declared, easing back in his chair and taking in the ridiculous amount of food that was still piled high on the plates in the middle of the lazy susan. They had ordered far too much food, but Jack was paying and it wasn't every day he took them to the best Chinese restaurant in town. If they wanted one of everything off the menu, who cared if they couldn't eat it all. If they were lucky they could get a doggy bag for the leftovers and have enough for a few more days.
‘I couldn't eat another bite either,’ Gwen added, toying with the sweet and sour pork still on her own plate.
‘Well, I hope not,’ Jack said, reaching over for yet another huge spoonful of fried rice and heaping more beef and black bean on top. ‘We haven't had dessert or the fortune cookies yet. They're the best part of going out for Chinese.’
‘You don't believe that bollocks, do you?’ Owen asked. ‘It's just words shoved inside biscuits. Doesn't mean it'll happen.’
‘Are you kidding? If I'd paid attention to my fortune cookie in 1983, I'd never have been trampled by that circus elephant!’
