Summary: Ianto isn't quite used to living in the fast lane with Jack yet.

Ianto tried hard not to show his inner terror as he stayed rigid in the passenger seat of the SUV. There were days when he yearned to be part of the team and get to ride around in the SUV having adventures like the rest of them. Then he remembered what Jack could be like when he got behind the wheel and quickly changed his mind.

Torchwood was bound to lead him to an early grave but he didn't fancy it happening too early. There were still things he wanted to tick off his bucket list in life, not the least of which might be to somehow finally get a moment alone with Jack where he might be able to express how he felt and snag that ever elusive first kiss out of him. It was still a work in progress, trying to wrap his head around the growing feelings he had for Jack and how best to navigate them in the wake of only recently having lost his girlfriend.

Talking to Jack about anything was hard, but trying to face up to something that Jack might simply laugh in his face and reject? He didn't think he could handle that. Jack didn't seem like the type to dismiss him out of hand but then you never knew. It was of a gradual build up towards something that he wasn't sure he was ready to accept himself. He shouldn't fancy Jack but somehow he was finding it harder and harder to resist. There was going to come a day when he couldn't deny it any longer.

This moment alone however was not the ideal opportunity. He didn't want to do anything that might distract Jack from the all important tasks of keeping them on the road and not attached to anything else. Like a light pole or another car.

'There's nothing to be gained from going twenty miles over the speed limit,' Ianto reminded him. Not when the world wasn't about to end. Not where there wasn't a weevil somewhere at the other end of their journey, trying to tear some poor civilian limb from limb. Not when there was no teammate bleeding to death and in need of getting to A and E as soon as possible. Not when all they were doing was going to pick up fish and chips, most definitely.

Jack dismissed Ianto's comment with a laugh and a further press on the accelerator pedal. 'The goal is to live a little, Ianto,' Jack told him. 'What's the point of having a fast car if you can't go fast?'

'I think the speed limit is the point.'

'The fish and chips will be getting cold.'

'We haven't even ordered them yet! How can they be getting cold?' Ianto asked, grabbing the edge of the door as Jack swung the car left, nearly tipping it in the process. Jack hooted with delight as the engine revved and went shooting down Old Bute Road, kicking up a spray of rainwater in its wake.

We're going to die, Ianto thought. What good was hot fish and chips if they were dead? If they made it there alive he was going to throw caution to the wind and just snog the living daylights out of Jack, lest he never get the chance again. After all, they still had to make it back to the hub and then there was a real risk of their tea getting cold. Jack was going to floor it and there wasn't a damn thing Ianto could do.

He sighed. The things he did for love.
