Summary: Suzie wishes she sometimes didn't ask questions. A double drabble.
'So, what is it?' Suzie asked, arms folded as she looked down curiously at the object in Jack's hands.
'It's a neural recording interface, he said, as if that explained everything. Thirty-fourth century technology, though not from around these parts,' he added, turning the device over in his hands. 'Interface is all wrong for species this side of the Delta Six Cluster. I'd say this one was designed for a mono-pedal Atraxian lifeform.'
'And it does what, exactly?'
'It's like a camera, but better. You don't just see what was recorded. You feel it, taste it, smell it. Every last sensory detail, like you're right there in the moment.' He sighed. 'Pity we won't be able to download the content and see what's on it. It could be snaps from some ken's first birthday, or their last holiday, or… something a little naughtier?' He waggled his eyebrows.
Suzie rolled her eyes. 'I'm guessing you've used it for the latter?'
'Hey, when you're out travelling alone in the depths of space for months at a time, you can use a little companionship. Or if you can't get the real thing, this isn't a bad alternative.'
'I don't even want to know.'
