Summary: Tosh and Ianto are annoyed at the state of the SUV after Jack and Owen's latest alien retrieval.
'I can't believe they could be so…' Tosh trailed off, looking for the right word to express her anger and frustration.
'Stupid, thoughtless, utterly bonkers?' Ianto offered up several alternatives for her to use and reserved a few more for himself for later. Like her he could scarcely believe what he was faced with.
'It doesn't even look like the SUV anymore,' Tosh carried on, dropping a box with a bundle of tools inside it on the ground.
'Mmm,' Ianto hummed in agreement. 'It's very, uh, fuzzy.' That was the best he could come up with, which was surprising given his extensive vocabulary. Jack said the alien mass is ninety percent base metals and this was the best they could come up with at short notice to capture it before it dispersed and started multiplying all over Cardiff.
'Magnetising the entire SUV and collecting them all on the outside of it?' she asked. 'Didn't they realise what damage that was going to do to all the computer systems inside the car? It's a wonder the car didn't break down entirely.'
Ianto grabbed his scraper and bucket and began slicing it across the surface, causing a disruption in the now dead alien particles. They showered into his bucket with the sound of metallic sand. He kept at it until he'd managed to clear enough off the back passenger door for Tosh to be able to get inside. As he worked over the rest of the car he could hear her continuing to swear and grumble.
'We're going to have to replace everything in here,' she said loudly, tossing out a computer screen, sending it clattering on the concrete. 'I'm going to have to strip the SUV back to nothing and start all over again. Don't they understand how long that's going to take?'
'I don't think it crossed their minds at the time,' he replied, feeling less annoyed with Jack at the state of the SUV than Tosh. He definitely had the easier of the two jobs, even though he could see there patches where the alien metal had scratched the paintwork. He'd have to paint and buff the entire thing top to bottom. Stupid fuzzy aliens.
'What are we going to do with them?' Tosh asked. 'There must be some kind of punishment for this.'
Ianto didn't disagree. They had enough work to do without Jack and Owen adding to it.
'Aren't you two finished with that yet?' Jack asked, appearing in the workshop.
'We've hardly begun,' Ianto replied, still only having managed to scrape off half the creatures. Now the SUV looked like a punk teenager with half its head shaved.
'I need the car,' Jack said.
'What for?'
'Um, lunch? Owen and I are starving and you weren't looking like reappearing to make any.'
Ianto gesticulated at the mess. 'And you wonder why?' He tossed his own car keys at Jack. 'You can have mine on the condition it doesn't come back covered in fur, tattoos or piercings.'
