Summary: Sam is troubled by current discussions. A double drabble.


Sam could barely swallow his ale, thin and watered down as it was. He was too preoccupied with watching the room as it filled full of men for their evening meal. There was a thrum of anticipation as they each knew tonight would be the Choosing, when a new Lord Commander was appointed to lead them.

Would it be Janos Slynt or Bowen Marsh? Neither felt like the right choice, but it was Janos Slynt that worried him most. The man was a traitor and a coward, but he had still made allies here at Castle Black regardless, none more dangerous than their Master of Swords, Ser Alliser. They were conferring even now as Sam watched from a distance. Jon's fate hung in the balance, resting on the judgement of whoever took over as Lord Commander, and perhaps that was what troubled Sam. Their hushed conversation, away from the other men convinced Sam they were up to more than just shoring up votes. Both of them hated Jon and would love nothing more than to see him hang.

There simply had to be another way to prevent them from executing the most loyal Night's Watchman that had perhaps ever lived.
