This place wasn't like any kind of countryside Tosh had ever experienced. She remembered tranquil sunny days with rolling hills and light breezes from childhood road trips and picnics. Even on a cloudy day, the country should seem peaceful and restorative.
Instead, this place gave her the creeps. It was too quiet for a start. There should be birds chirping and sheep bleating in their pastures. The only thing that broke the eerie silence was a cawing of a single crow, or an indistinct animal noise that Ianto had tried to explain away as a fox. She didn't buy it for a second.
This place wasn't peaceful, it was abandoned, yet there was something still here, lurking in the chilly shadows that put her on edge. People didn't just go missing without a reason, and they certainly didn't end up stripped of their flesh by accident. Quiet as it was, they definitely weren't alone.
She gripped her gun a little bit tighter and edged cautiously towards the old country house, ears attuned to even the slightest sound that wasn't Ianto's tentative footfalls behind her. If ever there was a day for shooting first and asking questions later, today was it.
