torchwood100Summary: Up at the top of the world it's anything but quiet. A double drabble.
Jack drew in a deep breath of Cardiff air, tasting just the faintest hint of salt from the bay.
People always thought he came up here to stand on the highest rooftop in Cardiff to get a bit of peace and quiet. It was exactly the opposite. From way up here, he could hear every last sound, from the growl of a taxi cab engine as it waited for its passenger, to the screech of cranes erecting even more apartment blocks, and the cry of gulls sweeping through the skies as they skimmed over the barrage. Every sound echoed up between the buildings from the streets below and came to meet his ears in a beautiful symphony of life.
That was what he loved most about being up here, being so enveloped in all of that wonderful noisy life. Down in the hub it was so easy to forget that all of this existed. This was what they worked so hard for, sacrificing sleep and normal lives so that the rest of it could carry on.
Jack sucked in another deep breath. Gods but the twenty-first century was amazing. They had no idea down there just how brilliant they were.
