Summary: The side effects of Owen's death are troubling Jack. A double drabble.
Seeing all the weevils come to a dead stop around them freaked Jack out more than he liked to admit. He'd never seen a weevil afraid of anything before. They didn't even observe any kind of hierarchy as far as Jack could tell, but seeing them standing there spellbound by Owen's presence was something entirely new.
They were receptive to emotion in a way that even humans didn't perceive but this was different. In some ways Jack thought that made them more intelligent than anyone gave them credit. Whatever low level telepathic connection they shared, they all agreed on one thing. It was like they knew that Owen had danced with death and won. That made him more powerful than death. Jack couldn't die but the weevils didn't care about that. They cared about how dangerous a man was that was dead but still living.
Jack was almost as spellbound by the sight of all those weevils cowering on their knees as they were at the sight of Owen. They were safe for now, and then Owen began spewing forth a string of ominous gibberish that very clearly wasn't Owen. So much for thinking they were out of the woods.
