torchwood100Summary: Jack and Ianto are overwhelmed by the task ahead. A triple drabble.
Jack rubbed his face as the long list of emails and reports scrolled across the projector screen in the boardroom. There were hundreds, if not thousands of them. The sheer size and scale of Torchwood's operations laid bare in an endless list of unread correspondence. ‘It’s just…’
Ianto nodded, reaching for his coffee mug and taking a long draught. ‘I know.’
‘How could we have gone all these years and not known about any of this?’
‘I suppose in much the same way as all these Torchwood outposts had no idea that London was gone and the only other person at Torchwood Three who had access was dead.’
Jack shook his head in disbelief. ‘And they just kept on sending stuff through even when no one responded.’
‘We’d probably have done the same. Whatever they were working on was important enough to document in the hopes that it’d be of use somewhere in the future; to whoever resurrected Torchwood's operations.’
‘I.e. us,’ Jack said, frowning. ‘Thanks a lot, Alex.’
‘Could be worse,’ Ianto said. ‘The login Alex had could have stayed buried forever. Instead it was set to unlock itself after ten years of inactivity to whoever might still be around. And just remember, it's more my problem than yours now.’
Jack couldn't help but smirk. ‘Yeah, I guess now you actually do have some global operations to be director of.’
There was a sardonic eye roll. ‘Har har. I had enough headaches just trying to get Rex and his US operations up and running. Now this.’
Jack couldn't deny it was a mountain of a task. More than forty Torchwood outposts dotted all over the globe. ‘I'll help. You know that.’
‘Of course you'll bloody help,’ Ianto replied. ‘I’m your boss. You do what I tell you to’.
