Summary: Almost nothing surprises Jack anymore. A double drabble.

Jack stood over the remains of the dog and nudged it with his boot just to make sure it really was dead. On the whole he didn’t like to shoot animals, but when they had glowing eyes and a taste for human flesh, there wasn’t much to be done about it. The glowing eyes was the dead giveaway that he wasn’t dealing with just any old rabid dog. Not to mention the green goo that was now oozing out of its ear and onto the ground. Ah, so that was the culprit. Probably lodged itself in the dog's brain and took over.

He fished a screw cap container from his pocket and carefully scooped up the goo before it could invade any of the other local wildlife. By his own standards this wasn’t even unusual. How many times had he come across sentient goo now? They were mostly harmless in his experience, although after having three inches of flesh removed from his leg on this occasion, he decided that making generalisations about goo was not a good idea. This one would go straight into the archives with a label saying “do not open” just to be on the safe side.

I wouldn't risk that; I'd sling it in the furnace!
