Summary: Something is standing in the way of Owen and Jack's rift retrieval. A double drabble.
'Have you found it yet?' Jack called out, distracting Owen from his search. As if he wouldn't have said so, he thought to himself. The whole place was an overgrown mass of weeds and brambles. If it weren't for Tosh's computer analysis confirming their rift item had dropped into this particular garden, he would have given up looking long ago. It was more than just a needle in a haystack.
He almost missed it completely, wedged in the forking of two branches had it not been for the sudden movement of something grey. A squirrel hunched over it, protectively claiming the item for itself. 'Oi, that's not yours,' Owen said.
'What was that?' Jack asked.
'Nothing,' Owen replied.' Found it, only…' Jack approached and looked at where Owen was pointing. 'Stupid thing is staring at me,' Owen complained.
'Oh, get over it Owen,' Jack replied. 'It's just a stupid squirrel. Grab the thing and let's go.'
'What if it bites?'
'We're not fighting a squirrel for something that's ours.' Jack shoved past him and reached up to grab it. The squirrel scurried, but not before giving Jack a piece of its mind. 'Ow, damn thing bit me!'
'I warned you.'
