drabble_zoneSummary: Jack thought he was being helpful. A triple drabble.
‘Don't forget to pick me up a pumpkin when you pop down to the shops,’ Ianto called to Jack, still stuck behind his tower of reports that needed to be finalised. Better Ianto than him, Jack thought, making a quick getaway before Ianto changed his mind and asked Jack to help with some of them.
Jack wasn't their regular grocery shopper, but he didn't mind it so much at this time of year. Halloween meant everything in the chocolate and lolly aisle would be cheap and he could buy twice as much. Ianto didn't even have to know about that secret little stash.
He didn't have to search hard to find the massive pile of pumpkins by the door. They had all kinds, from smooth skinned to really gnarly looking things with warts and nobbly bits. Better still, Jack found some that were pre-carved with their ghoulish faces. Ianto, for all his endeavour, never really succeeded with making the face look really scary. Most toddlers wouldn’t even be afraid, but these ones were properly sinister. Jack picked the best one and tucked it under his arm. Their house would be the scariest in the street this year.
‘Honey, I'm home!’ Jack called out having spotted Ianto’s car in the drive, finally done with his paperwork. He set their pumpkin by the door.
‘Just in time. Did you buy that pumpkin?’
Jack pointed at it proudly. ‘Isn't she a beauty?’
Ianto frowned. ‘It's carved.’
‘Now I know you like to do it yourself, but honestly they're just not scary.’
‘Not that, you idiot,’ Ianto chastised. ‘I already had one carved and ready. I asked you to buy a pumpkin so I could make soup for tea!’
‘Oh.’
‘See this face now? Does that scare you sufficiently?’
