Summary: Owen needs Jack to make him one promise. A triple drabble.
'How’re you doing?' Jack asked, coming to sit himself on the medical bay steps next to Owen.
Owen sat there in silence for a while, just starting out over his domain – or more to the point, what used to be his domain. How could he go back to being a doctor now that he was dead?
'Used to love all this,' he finally said. 'Paperwork was a bit shit, but the rest was okay.'
Jack rested his arms on his knees, clasping his wrists together as he looked around the medical bay himself. 'It doesn’t have to end here, Owen,' he said. 'There’s still a place here for you. If you want it.'
'Magnanimous of you,' Owen remarked, though it didn't have the same salty bitterness to it that it would have done when he’d been alive. Truthfully, he appreciated the gesture. He finally understood why Suzie had topped herself. After this job, there really wasn’t anything else worth doing.
'I’m serious, Owen,' Jack insisted. 'Why else do you think I brought you back? It wasn’t for a bunch of codes or a sense of guilt. It’s because this place needs you.'
'Course it bloody does,' he agreed. 'You lot are shit without me.'
Jack smirked. 'That we are.'
'Just promise me one thing, yeah?'
'Anything.'
'Assuming this whole dead thing doesn’t work out and there really does come a time when it’s night night nurse, don’t bring me back again. I’ve already had life, for what it was worth. Not destined to change the world by hanging around. Not like you.'
'Nothing is one hundred percent certain,' Jack replied, not outright making him any promises.
'I’ll bloody haunt you for all your days if you try it,' Owen warned him. 'Got to be some peace after all this, right?'
