Summary: Ianto acts on instinct as he tags along on assignment with Jack. A double drabble.
Ianto wasn’t sure what to expect when he’d volunteered himself to go out on assignment with Jack. Disturbances at the Millenium Centre wasn’t much to go on, but whatever it was, he was just going to have to deal with it. After all, he’d been the one who’d told Jack he was tagging along and that he was ready. He had his gun and he had his sudden, though quickly waning, sense of self confidence that this is what it would take to get Jack to notice him and take him seriously.
Jack had wanted him to know that if it was what he thought it was, that it wasn’t going to be pretty. Still, it came as a shock when Ianto flipped on the stage lights and came face to face with the twelve foot tall living puppet from hell.
Scared as he was, he hadn't even realised that his gun hand had gone out in front of him and that he’d stepped between it and Jack, becoming a human shield. Not that Jack probably needed one as he brandished an enormous flamethrower.
‘Get behind me!’ Jack shouted with maniacal glee. ‘Things are about to get hot in here!’
