Disclaimer Torchwood sadly doesn’t belong to me, but I treat it better.

‘That was a red light,’ Ianto casually observed as the SUV flashed by it, skipping through the less than empty intersection. Jack moved so fast he didn't even hear the annoyed honking of Cardiff horns as he cut them off in a streak of blue flashing lights. Even tonight, Christmas cheer only got you so far in getting away with being a road hog. ‘You know, just once it would be nice if we could abide by the road laws.’

Jack shrugged off the half hearted chastisement. That’d be the third traffic offence I've committed,' he said, not sounding at all remorseful at the fact. ‘You’re off your game tonight, Ianto. See, that’s how I know you’re still sick.'

‘Not so off my game that I missed you running the red.’

‘Told you that you should've stayed home tucked up in bed.’

‘Yes, and if you’d gotten into trouble tonight because I wasn't here, the only red we’d be seeing is my sister as she loses the plot wondering why we can’t manage to turn up for Christmas lunch.’

‘There's no fear of that,’ Jack assured him. ‘I will have you there right on the dot of noon as promised, just in time to pop the champagne and carve up the turkey. Even if I have to run a few red lights to get you there on time.’

There was a concessionary grunt of acceptance that Jack would never willingly let Ianto down when it came to staying on his family's good side. ‘If I had to pull you up every single time you broke a law I'd never get anything else done.'

Jack could tell from his tone of voice that he was quietly annoyed with himself that he hadn't noticed the first two lesser infringements. To be fair, Ianto should just be grateful that he had a lot less administration to do ever since Tosh had developed a program that would automatically trawl through the city’s red light cameras, picking up any instance where they clocked the SUV’s number plate and immediately deleting it from the police database of traffic infringements. Jack couldn't remember the last time Ianto had complained about having to call up and protest against a fine. Which, of course, left him free time for more enjoyable pursuits. A win-win as far as Jack was concerned.

‘Oh, come on, just admit it,’ Jack teased. ‘You’re sitting there now trying to think what else I've done wrong that you missed, and it’ll annoy the hell out of you until you figure them out.’

Ianto shuffled in his seat. ‘Or you’re just saying there were two others to try and psyche me out.’

‘Would I do that?’

‘Actually, you would.’

Jack chuckled. 'Psychological games are your thing, not mine. There are too many easier ways to mess with you than to bother with all that.’

‘Perhaps I should have returned your Christmas present then and just gone with a whoopee cushion and snake in a can.’

‘Only if I get to return yours. I’m guessing the only kind of box you want to be tearing open is a fresh one of kleenex.’

‘Yes, very funny. My boyfriend, the comedian.’
