Summary: Gwen is only acting in Jack's best interests. A double drabble.
‘Freeze!’ Gwen shouted across the hub. ‘Don’t move!’
Jack spun on his heel, expecting to come face to face with Gwen and her gun pointed straight at him. He knew that Torchwood was a dangerous place and that any of them could become compromised at any time. One day he was going to have to make a difficult decision in order to protect himself and his team.
There was no gun, but Gwen was quickly closing the distance between them, her face full of unconcealed fury. ‘Put it down, now!’ she commanded.
Jack slowly raised his free hand in surrender, whilst moving the other slowly, unthreateningly sideways, finally putting the tin on the desk before raising it as well.
‘I'll take that,’ Gwen said, snatching the tin away.
‘But…’
‘But nothing, Jack Harkness,’ tipping the contents into the nearest hazardous waste bin. ‘This is an intervention.’ She sighed. ‘We knew we couldn’t trust you.’
‘I was desperate!’
‘So desperate that you’d risk life and limb?’
‘Part of the job,’ he replied.
‘Well, just so long as you realise that the only limb at risk will be the one in the middle if Ianto catches you drinking instant coffee,’ she warned.
