Summary: Tosh feels guilty for her actions. A double drabble.

Tosh could scarcely believe she'd fired her gun. She only realised after it had happened, all of her Torchwood training kicking in without her even registering it.

She felt terrible, not just seeing her own gun raised towards the gantry, but that of her three teammates as well. All of them – Jack, Owen and Ianto – had fired in the same direction at the same time. They'd seen Beth converting into the alien sleeper, drawing her long bladed arm towards Gwen. It was a split second decision that was barely conscious. One of their own was in danger, on the verge of being killed, and she'd just drawn her gun and fired.

Gwen's angry words struck her like a slap to the face. She wanted you to shoot her. Somewhere, deep down, Tosh had realised that too in those milliseconds. Perhaps they all had. Their lives were full of actions done in the heat of the moment without considering the alternatives.

It was easy to live with the idea that instinct had told them what to do, rather than know they were committing assisted suicide. Spending so little time thinking how to preserve life at all costs made her feel sick.

Killing Beth was the only way though, she would rather be dead than live with what she was, knowing she could lose control at any second. Gwen was the only one who refused to see and accept that.
