Summary: Jack doesn't have to be happy about his family's life choices. A double drabble.
Ianto slid the plate of toast under his husband’s nose, noting the fact that he hadn’t yet touched his mug of coffee. ‘Don't sulk,’ Ianto chastised. ‘It's very unbecoming of someone your age.’
Jack frowned down at the breakfast offering and remained silent for a few moments longer. ‘It’s not fair.’
Ianto sighed and picked a piece of toast up from his own plate, nibbling the corner. ‘Life isn’t fair. We’ve both lived long enough to know that.’
Jack huffed, breakfast still ignored. ‘They could have done anything,’ he said, beginning what would become a repeat of the same rant from the night before. ‘Anything,’ he reiterated.
Ianto resisted the urge to roll his eyes. ‘Did you honestly think your grandchildren would want to do anything other than work for Torchwood?’
‘They should respect the wishes of their grandparents.’
Ianto laughed at that. Their own children hadn’t listened to Jack’s protests that he would forbid them to ever join Torchwood, and now their own brood were just as keen to follow in their parents and grandparents footsteps. ‘Good luck stopping them,’ he told Jack. ‘Instead, consider looking at it as building the family business. Who better to shape Torchwood’s future?’
