Summary: Early morning sounds provide a soothing lullaby. A double drabble.
Ianto woke in the middle of the night, wrapped up warm in the thick blanket that covered Jack’s bed, but needing to use the bathroom. He padded to and from the tiny ensuite, pausing to hear the sound of two voices, drifting down through the uncovered hatch overhead.
‘That’s three games in a row,’ Owen’s voice said. ‘You’re losing your touch.’
Ianto could almost hear Jack’s pout. ‘I’d say you're cheating but I know you're not.’
Owen scoffed. ‘Only because we both know you’re counting cards, but making an absolute bloody hash of it. Bet you wish we were only playing for matchsticks now.’
Jack grunted but told Owen he was ready to deal another round.
Ianto smiled and contemplated going up there to join them. It was still too early for anything else, but after everything Owen had been through, trying to come to terms with his new living death, it was nice to hear the two of them getting along just like old times. He didn’t want to interrupt that. Instead he climbed back into the bed and pulled the blanket up around his ears, soothed by the sounds of everything being just the way it should be.
