Title: Trusting to hope
Character: Jack
Author: m_findlow
Author: m_findlow
Rating: PG
Length: 200 words
Summary: Jack has to risk it all to save the world. A double drabble.
Watching Abaddon reign terror, death and destruction on the city was more than Jack could bear. He’d sworn himself to protect the city from the things that came through the rift and he'd failed even to protect his own team from the rift. There wasn’t time to worry about what they'd done and why, only that he’d begun a chain of events that was going to end the world. He simply couldn't let that happen; not whilst he still drew breath.
He didn’t know how to stop Abaddon, but he knew that he needed to try anything and everything. If Abaddon wanted to devour the souls of the living then perhaps jack preternatural ability to defy death with life was the answer. If he had unlimited life and that was what the devourer really wanted, then perhaps it would be satisfied just to take him and leave everyone else alone.
Of course, he could also be resigning himself to permanent death this time, or even unending, limitless torture, but it was that or watch the whole world die. His life was worth less than everyone else's. Maybe it wouldn't work but he had to hope. Hope was all they had.
