Rating: PG
Length: 300 words
Summary: Ianto has been in a bad mood for days, and it doesn't look like letting up. A triple drabble.
Jack heaved a sigh as he pulled the SUV into the driveway. He was under no illusion that he'd be spending the night on the sofa tonight. He'd already had two days of having to pay for a separate hotel room, since there was nothing but floor as a secondary option.
‘I can't believe you're still mad at me,’ he said, turning off the engine, watching Ianto stew in the passenger seat, arms folded across his chest.
‘You were supposed to back me up,’ he sulked, not for the first time. ‘I felt like an idiot in front of all those people.
Jack shook his head. His husband had looked like anything but, yet there was no convincing him that everyone at UNIT now considered Torchwood to be a lost cause. ‘They raised some valid points,’ he replied, echoing the same arguments as before. ‘It's not like you to be so single-minded and have not considered them.’
‘There was nothing wrong with my proposal! They just wanted to stamp their authority all over it.’
Jack sighed again. Having Ianto in charge was proving more challenging than expected. Jack was okay with UNIT not liking how he'd run things. Ianto took it personally. He had skin in the game now and everything Torchwood did was a reflection of his own leadership.
‘Of course there was nothing wrong with it,’ Jack repeated. ‘I don't know how many times I've said so.’
‘Then why didn't you tell them that?’ came the exasperated cry. ‘I worked on that proposal for months!’
‘I said there was nothing wrong with it. That doesn't mean it can't do with a bit of polish and other points of view.’ Wasn't that the whole reason they'd gone to present it at UNIT's Copenhagen conference?
‘I suppose so,’ Ianto sulked.
