Summary: Torchwood One never gives up on anything. A triple drabble.
Ianto knocked tentatively on the smoky glass door before entering. If his boss was perturbed, she did a good job of hiding it. ‘Ah, did I just see Captain Jack Harkness storming out of here?’ he asked, gently as if carrying on a conversation rather than admitting that the man had very nearly bowled him over in the process. Jenny from accounts had to plaster herself against the wall to avoid being mowed down.
Yvonne managed a sly smirk. ‘Oh, you saw that little performance, did you? Just so very Jack Harkness, isn't it?’
‘What did he want?’
‘Just to have the last word,’ she replied cryptically.
‘Last word on what?’
‘I’m afraid that Torchwood Three has decided to divorce itself. We shan't be seeing the Captain’s darling face around here anymore, I'm afraid. He just wanted to let me know that.’
‘But…’ Ianto was lost for words. ‘Can he do that? I mean, can we let him do that?’
Yvonne eased back in her chair. ‘Ianto, one thing I've learned is that Captain Harkness does whatever he wants. Torchwood Three will find out very quickly that they won’t survive long cut off from all our resources and technology.’
Ianto frowned, wondering how Yvonne could be so calm about it all. Torchwood Three was a significant asset to have suddenly go rogue on them. ‘Do you really think it’s wise to let them just go? There’s the rift to consider, and–’ Yvonne held up a hand to silence his naysaying.
‘Don’t worry. I plan on keeping an eye on him. In fact, how would you fancy a little bit of undercover work? Perhaps a little bit of time back home with your family?’
‘Oh, no. Don’t even think about it.’
Yvonne nodded. ‘Very well, but if you change your mind…’
