Rating: PG
Length: 200 words
Summary: The team are faced with an unfolding crisis. A double drabble.
‘All of them?’ Jack asked, taken aback by the news.
‘All of them,’ Owen confirmed, scrolling through the details on his tablet. ‘The last two of the ship’s crew reported symptoms late last night and tests this morning confirmed it. That’s all thirty eight crew now in isolation.’
Jack’s frown deepened. ‘And did we vaccinate the others in time?’ He’d seen this virus before and it had never before reached this sector of the galaxy. The last thing he needed was his own team coming down with it and potentially starting up a chain reaction of infections that would spread endemically from Earth all across the sector. The mortality rate was far higher than he’d like.
‘Too soon to tell,’ Owen replied, keeping his tone professional and doctor-like. ‘Monitoring everyone hour by hour, but right now telling them not to go in and help care for the crew is like telling them to hold their breath indefinitely.’
Jack nodded, accepting the reality of the situation. His team always put the lives of others ahead of their own, even knowing the risks. He grabbed a spare pair of gloves and a face mask. ‘Well, we’d better go in and help them.’
