Rating: PG
Length: 200 words
Summary: Gwen finds Torchwood's island refuge unnerving. A double drabble.
Gwen promised herself that she wouldn't freak out this time.
It was her third trip out the Flat Holm and she knew the lay of the place now. That didn't stop it however, from filling her with a dread that she couldn't put into words. There was something about the place, either the darkness, or the cold, or the forlorn looks on the faces of most of its patients and staff, that gave the whole place an eeriness that made her pulse race unnaturally, and turned her plans white and sweaty.
She wanted to grab for her gun, as a reassuring presence in her hand, but guns were banned on the island, for everyone's protection and peace of mind. This was meant to be a safe space, yet it felt anything but.
She could understand what made Jack hate coming here. It put you on edge, like there was danger around every corner, or some monster ready to snare you. Only the monsters here were the victims, and the ones that needed to be protected from the ordinary humans.
She clinched a fist, her fingernails biting painfully into her palm. She wouldn't let the place get to her, she vowed.
