Summary: Jack can think of better ways to spend a day off. A quadruple drabble.

Jack groaned again as Ianto’s hand clamped more tightly around his own, dragging him into yet another department store and onto the escalator. ‘Do we have to do this now?’ he complained. ‘We haven’t had so much as a few hours off, let alone a whole day off in the past month and all we’ve done so far today is wander from store to store looking at boring sofas.’ Jack didn’t mind shopping per se, but this hardly counted.

‘Well, when else are we going to do it?’ came the reply. ‘You can’t just order one online. It has to feel right and be comfy.’

‘The one we have already is comfy,’ Jack argued.

‘It’s also ten years old and has seen better days. Plus, it’s beginning to smell funny even after using that shampoo stuff on it. Too many times we’ve collapsed onto it after a long day when we should have showered first. Clearly a sign it needs replacing.’ He stopped and pointed. ‘What about this one? It looks nice. Sit on it and try it out.’

Jack groaned once more. He’d sat down and gotten up more times than he could count, bouncing, lying back, sinking into sofas that were too squishy and bruising his bum on ones that were rock hard. This was not any way to spend a rare day off, but he did it because he loved Ianto and time spent together was precious.

He plonked down, feeling the cushion give, but not too much. ‘Not bad,’ he said.

Ianto perched down next to him, giving it an experimental bounce. ‘You’re right.’

‘Of course I still say we don’t need a new one,’ Jack added. ‘The old one is perfect just as it is.’

Ianto ignored Jack’s comment. ‘Says it’s got customisable fabrics,’ he said, reading the tag then looking around, ‘but I don’t see the fabric swatch anywhere. I’ll go find someone and ask.’

‘Fine. I’ll stay here,’ Jack replied. One less getting up and sitting back down again.

Ianto was only gone five minutes but when he came back, there was Jack, slumped asleep on it, a cushion hugged against his body like a deformed teddy bear, mouth hanging slightly open.

Well, that decided it. Jack barely slept in bed, let alone on their sofa. If it was comfy enough for a nap, then all he had to do was choose fabrics.

Aw! I love the description of Jack napping in a shop, cuddling a cushion! That sofa has his seal of approval.
