Summary: There's only so much repetition that Owen can take. A double drabble.
Owen shoved his fingers in his ears and groaned. ‘Who in the name of God thought it was a good idea to give it a bloody xylophone to play with?’ he complained, unable to take his eyes off the strange looking creature in its playpen, tapping away at the toy with endless joy.
‘I think the fact that it’s only the equivalent of a toddler, and yet has taught itself how to play is quite remarkable,’ Jack replied. ‘I can’t believe you wouldn’t be fascinated by that. It’s not a species I'm familiar with but their ability to digest information and learn new skills at such a young age just shows you the true neuroplasticity potential of living things.’
‘Yeah, yeah, that’s all wonderfully anthropologically brilliant,’ Owen grumbled, ‘but can it learn to play a different song now? If I have to hear twinkle twinkle sodding little bloody star one more time then you’re going to have exploding brain to study as well.’
‘Well, why didn’t you just say so, Owen?’ Jack smirked. ‘Ianto, think we can rustle up some sheet music for our guest? Maybe Beethoven’s Piano Concerto 3?’
‘Not sure the xylophone has enough keys for that, sir.’
