Summary: Owen has earned the right to be pissed off at the world. A double drabble.
Jack watched Ianto filter into his office from the corner of his eye. Without looking up he asked ‘Is Owen still being a pain in the arse?’
‘Is that what we’re calling being dead these days?’ came the answer. ‘I suppose that makes sense given how much of a pain in the arse you are and how often you end up dead.’
Jack didn’t bite at the snide remark, knowing that technically it was after hours now and there was only so far his extension as boss could reach when it was just the two of them alone.
‘I would have thought you’d have a little bit more empathy,’ Ianto said, coming to stand in front of Jack’s desk, towering judgmentally over him. ‘He hasn’t just fallen on hard times, he’s literally lost everything in his life that made it feel real. I think he’s more than entitled.’
Jack’s hands clenched into fists. ‘I’m painfully aware of that, Ianto.’ He didn't like being lectured by his lover any more than he did his employees. ‘I’m the reason he’s dead in the first place. You think I wouldn't trade places with him if I could?’
‘But you can’t,’ Ianto reminded him.
