Summary: Ianto suspects he’s closer to their suspected threat than he’d like.
Ianto had gone down into the tunnels of the CERN research facility knowing that he and Gwen were probably walking right into danger. That was just what they did though. Someone had to.
‘Who you gonna call?’ he muttered rhetorically to himself, walking his bike along the long, almost imperceptibly curved concrete passage. Riding wasn’t as much fun as it had been at the outset, even if it had kept his heart-rate slightly elevated and made the journey seem quicker and less hazardous. It had also been challenging in a suit and he was getting a wedgie that he wasn’t sure he could unpick without some CCTV camera recording it for posterity. That was not the image of the Ambassador for Wales he wanted to leave.
He squeezed his hands around the handlebars a little bit tighter. It was bloody freezing down here and he was beginning to lose feeling in them. They’d gone pale from the lack of blood flow as his heart chose to keep his internal warmth closer to his important organs, but as he looked down at them again now, he couldn't deny that they were even whiter than before. They were taking on a pearlescent quality.
He paused just long enough to lean the bike against the wall and tug up his jacket sleeve, revealing a slight translucent glow to his arm. That wasn’t good. Martha had said she’d found the bodies of the missing scientists, glowing like angels. Something down here in the tunnels had caused them to be that way, and then someone had taken them and hid the bodies, presuming they’d never be found. Whatever it was, he knew he was slowly becoming like them. Either he’d find it, or someone was going to find him and hide him the same way.
