Summary: Jack has resisted the idea for as long as he can. A double drabble.
Jack had been on his own for a long time; probably longer than he thought he himself would still be here at torchwood, running things. After everything that had happened just as the clock was striking midnight on the eve of the new millennium, he’d resolved then and there that this was far too dangerous a job for anyone. Anyone except the man who couldn’t die.
But loneliness, and the sheer amount of work to do meant Jack was forever chasing his tail. It was too much for one man – even an immortal man who hardly slept – to keep up with.
Perhaps if he just… he kept shaking the thought away. Too dangerous. Too risky. But what if…
The “what ifs” kept coming back to haunt him. It didn't have to be a big team, after all. He could be selective in what he needed, making sure that he saved all the dangerous stuff for himself. If he just had someone who was good with technology, someone who knew how to dig through mysteries, someone who had a better understanding of physiognomy than he did. Maybe he could build something that would once again fill the hub with endless potential.
