Summary: Torchwood have built something pretty remarkable that will last long after they're gone. A triple drabble.
‘Build it and they will come,’ Jack proudly declared, standing on the top of the hillside and looking down over the lush green valleys of Cwm Noddfa as they flourished with alien life. Perhaps he shouldn’t sound like he was taking all the credit for it since his contribution was mostly just helping Ianto to lug heaving equipment up and down the valleys to be installed to create a huge shielded barrier, keeping the aliens in and everyone else out.
‘More like build it and finally unclog the overflow of Torchwood’s cells,’ Ianto remarked. It was starting to become like one of those overflowing refugee camps you see on the news. It was also no way to house aliens that meant no harm, but were too far outside what might pass as human, unable to be relocated into Cardiff’s suburbia.
Jack had to admire the hard work that had gone into making this place a sanctuary. Were it not for the job, he might have liked to retire up here himself, relaxing surrounded by Welsh mountains and lakes. ‘What do you think those crazy relatives of yours would say?’ he asked, referring to the distant relative that had bequeathed the property in joint shares to every last living relative of the Jones family tree, but every last one of them having renounced their inheritance until Ianto was the last beneficiary standing, inheriting the entire parcel of land, which was a sizable chunk of Wales.
‘I think they’d say I was the crazy one,’ he replied with a smile. ‘Then again, they’re probably right. An immortal man married to another immortal man, running an organisation that protects the planet from alien threats and helps friendly aliens to find a permanent home here.’
Jack chuckled. ‘Yep, that sounds pretty crazy to me.’
