drabble_zoneSummary: Gwen has procured and a strange new obsession. A triple drabble.
Jack surveyed the plethora of black bin bags piled up around their feet, each nearly bursting at the seams. 'Ianto, how are we doing?' he asked.
'Almost all of them have been scanned and confirmed as clean,' he reported. 'No rogue balls of wool so far.'
Jack nodded, then turned to find Gwen clutching a bright red ball to her chest. 'Where did you get that?' he said, his tone somewhere between annoyed and bemused.
Gwen's cheeks flushed at being caught with it in her hands. 'I smuggled it from the flat in my handbag, she quickly confessed. Whilst you were fishing more out from under the bed,' she added.
Jack held out a hand. 'Give it to me,' he ordered, watching her oscillate between wanting to comply and resisting by clutching it closer. Eventually Jack's glare forced her to give it up. Jack took it and Ianto was there at the ready with a fresh bin bag, holding it open for him to drop in the offending item. 'This is getting out of control,' he said, 'and I like knitting.'
Ianto's eyebrow arched. 'You do?'
'Another time,' Jack said, trying to keep the team focused on the problem at hand. 'I'm fairly sure that your new compulsion to hoard balls of wool is alien,' he said, trying to give Gwen some comfort, 'but we need to check them all to confirm if it's the wool causing it or something else. That means making sure we got every last ball, skein and sample.'
Gwen cleared her throat awkwardly and tugged something from her back jeans pocket, revealing yet another, this time in buttercup yellow. 'Sorry,' she muttered as she kept her eyes to the floor, avoiding looking at him.
Jack groaned. It was going to be a very long day.
