torchwood100Summary: Jack has tried everything to help a lost alien find home. A double drabble.
Jack was growing equal parts frustrated and despondent as he came into the conference room with yet another stack of rolled up star charts under his arm, unfurling them across the table.
Their alien guests stood on the leather chair and leaned over the fresh charts with a nautical divider in its paw. It was trying to find home on the maps so that Jack might be able to figure out where exactly that was and whether they could get him home without risking another trip through the rift, or a shuttle journey that might take more than its natural lifetime to reach home.
‘Do you recognise any of these constellations?’ Jack asked. Most of them were foreign to him, reaching further out into space than even he had travelled.
The alien slowly consulted them then looked up and shook its head sadly.
‘I'm sorry,’ Jack apologised. ‘This is all the charts we have.’
The alien's head dropped even lower and Jack placed an arm around its shoulders. ‘I know. I lost my home and everyone I knew a long time ago as well, but this place has come to be home too. I wouldn't leave even if I could.’
