'He worked in Debenhams!'  

Ice ran through her veins at the admission, and her brain protested against it.  

No she was wrong. Ianto wouldn't lie.

'He talks about you all the time. You and the kids.' 

Another lie.

When she'd first started at Torchwood.

More lies.

How was this possible? After all the years they'd worked together. All of the crazy, dangerous, brilliant stuff they'd done.  

She'd been strong for Jack, to bear this news to Ianto's sister, but now she felt overwhelmed.  

Grieving the man she'd known,  but grieving even more for the man she'd truly never really known.

Yeah, this was a really painful scene, and I felt for Gwen here.

I sometimes wonder whether it was Rhiannon who lied here - to Gwen - because she was hurting about being kept out of her brother's secret life.

We'll never know, will we?

I hated the way RTD went at this hamfisted character assassination. Bad enough that he killed Ianto so pointlessly, but the way he chipped away at everything we knew about the character, turning him into a whiny compulsive liar... It's one of many reasons why I refuse to accept CoE as canon.

On the other hand - Ianto is a private person, Gwen is a nosy parker who prys into other people's personal business, so why shouldn't Ianto tell her a pack of lies to stop her asking personal questions?

I really hated this scene.
I mean seriously RTD? What the hell was the point of it??
