Summary: Jack can never be sure that this case s closed for good. A double drabble.
‘Here it is,’ Jack said, handing Tosh a file and a flash drive. ‘Everything we have and know about Cell 114 and its destruction here on Earth.’ It had taken weeks to compile, but finally he had reports from every part of the globe where citizens had suddenly collapsed and died in a melted puddle of skin, having been victims of conversion killed when Jack activated the weapon.
Tosh took the files from him. ‘So, that’s it, then? We can finally close the case on Cell 114?’
Jack shrugged, unconvinced. ‘For now, I suppose, but who really knows if that was the last of them. We know their race was dying, in need of new host bodies, but we’ll never know for sure if they put all their eggs in one basket, seeking Earth as their sole hope of refuge. Maybe a small contingent of them found survival elsewhere in the universe, or maybe they’ll eventually come here, looking for their compatriots and salvation. Either way, we need to remain vigilant.’
Tosh chewed her lip. ‘Still, it’s nice having you and Ianto back. Not sure I’d have survived pretending to be your wife.’
Jack chuckled. ‘Not sure Ianto did either.’
