‘Oh my word,’ Penny breathed, taking in the expanse of the Torchwood Archive. ‘It’s absolutely huge.’
Ianto grinned. ‘Oh, this? This is just one of twenty four active vaults. There are others we haven't touched in over eighty years. Anything might be down there.’
‘And this is your job?’ she asked.
‘Well, technically now it’s your job,’ he replied. ‘Of course, I'll be here as much as I can spare the time to help you navigate your way around. Don’t think of it as all being able to be done in a single lifetime. This is a century and a half of records and artefacts. No one is that good, and that’s without the rest of the team coming in and messing it up whenever they feel like it,’ he added.
Penny cast her head slowly from one tall set of shelves to the next. ‘I’m not sure I'm cut out for this.’
Ianto wasn’t put off by her naysaying. ‘Think of it as an adventure. You never know what you’ll discover down here. Some of it is boring, but most of it is fascinating. And, you’ll know more about Torchwood than anyone else. Well, apart from Jack and myself.’
