Summary: Tosh laments not having a life outside of work. A double drabble.
‘Do you ever get tired of telling yourself lies and making excuses as to why we can’t find time for any kind of normal life?’ Tosh asked, twirling in her chair to look at her teammate currently up to his eyeballs in old documents from the archives.
‘Tired of it?’ Ianto asked. ‘No. I’m terribly creative and still managing to invent new lies and excuses even after all this time.’
She smiled at her friend’s dry sense of humour. ‘Why can’t we be more like Owen and Gwen and actually have a life outside of Torchwood?’
Ianto frowned. ‘Not sure I want to be more like Owen, do you?’
Tosh shrugged. ‘I suppose not.’ She liked Owen, probably more than was healthy, but he still had his own issues, and maybe going out drinking and shagging wasn’t the cure for that. ‘Maybe just more like Gwen, then. Stable boyfriend, old friends to hang out with that came before this…’
Ianto paused, considering it for a moment, weighing up pros and cons. ‘Sure, but if I had that, then wouldn’t I have to make excuses as to why I had to work late so that I could hang out with you?’
