Summary: Ianto has some ideas on how to maintain Torchwood's air of secrecy. A triple drabble.
Ianto was polishing the glass award for the Welsh Tourism Board “Best Information Bureau 2007”, before setting it down in pride of place next to an identical glass statue which read “Best Information Bureau 2006”. He beamed at it with pride even as Jack came through the door, frowning.
‘You know, we’re supposed to be secret around here,’ Jack reminded him.
‘Well, to be fair, the award is for the best tourist bureau, not the best entrance to a top secret organisation,’ he replied. ‘We’ve never won that award.’
‘Thank god for that. That’s all we need.’
‘Actually,’ Ianto said, pausing before moving out from behind the counter. ‘I was thinking about that.’ He picked up a bowl of breath mints that always sat on the counter just to the left of the complimentary maps of “Things to see and do in Cardiff”. ‘What’s the lowest dose of retcon we can make?’
Jack arched an eyebrow. ‘Why?’
‘I just thought maybe a teensy bit in these,’ he said. ‘Everyone takes one when they come in. People never can resist the offer of candy. And then, they might be, you know, a little bit vague on things afterwards. Not enough to ruin their holiday in the Welsh capital, mind you.’
Jack smirked. ‘Don’t want them forgetting all that very valuable knowledge you’ve given them about the best way to spend the day in the city.’ Jack knew how much Ianto prided himself on knowing everything there was to know about the city, from the price of a pint to which hotels had the best linen.
‘Exactly,’ Ianto agreed. ‘Of course,’ he said, staring wistfully and the bookended gleaming glass trophies, ‘it will probably be the last of these.’
‘I can live with that,’ Jack replied. ‘Time we experimented with some mints.’
