Summary: Jack likes to think that he's different from everyone else. A triple drabble.
Jack's vortex manipulator beeped and he groaned. So much for his quiet night. He was about to turn to his computer and check the details when he heard footsteps approaching his doorway. He looked up, surprised. ‘Ianto, what are you still doing here?’
‘I was trying to catch up on things, but now… Well, Tosh’s rift data analyser seems to think we’ve got a blowfish on the loose. I tend to agree, unless of course the seven reports to police in the last ten minutes are just coincidence.’
Jack nodded at the assessment. ‘Okay, it’s late. I’ll go deal with it. You head home and get some rest.’
‘Don’t be so bloody rubbish,’ Ianto chastised, already moving to pull a spare semi-automatic from Jack’s drawer, whilst passing Jack his own Webley. ‘I’m going with you.’
‘Ianto, it’s three in the morning. You should be in bed, sleeping. You know how dangerous these things are and even more so when you’re tired and unfocused.’
‘I’m not tired and I’m not unfocused. You can’t go out there on your own.’
‘I don’t need sleep like you do.’
Ianto rolled his eyes and gave Jack a dramatic sigh. ‘You don’t need sleep, you don’t need exercise, and you don’t need medical treatment. All nonsense. You keep talking up how you’re not like us, but you’re human, Jack, whether you want to admit it or not. You’re not that different from us, I should know. I’m the one that’s been in bed listening to you snore for hours. Say what you like, but I know deep down you’re just like us, even if you can’t die permanently.
Jack gritted his teeth. ‘Fine. But if you get hurt, it’ll be on my conscience that I didn’t stop you.’
‘See? Just further proof you’re completely human.’
