Summary: When travelling the universe, some things are simply inevitable. A double drabble.
Ianto had done a lot of travelling the universe with Jack. It never got old, seeing things he’d never seen, learning new languages and culture, trying different foods and hearing new kinds of music. Not all of the food and music was to his taste, and some of the languages proved impossible for his human anatomy to wrap his tongue around, but everything was an experience, good or bad.
Travelling of course also meant traversing the dangers of space itself. Their ship was sturdy and reliable, and Jack, for all his lead-footed antics behind the wheel of a car, was an excellent pilot, often managing to steer them through harrowing asteroid belts and swerving unmapped rifts. The last thing they wanted was to get sucked into one and end up in a different place and time. They knew all too well how that often ended.
Still, as fine a pilot as Jack was, even he couldn’t avoid everything. Their ship had its share of bingles and crash landings, but nothing ever prepared Ianto for the fear in Jack’s voice as he yelled “Brace!” watching their ship careen at frightening speed though the atmosphere towards the ground. Death was undeniably imminent.
