Summary: Tosh is trying her best to stay in touch. A double drabble.
‘Writing another postcard?’ Jack asked, peering surreptitiously over Tosh’s shoulder.
‘Just a short one,’ she replied, moving to cover some of the Japanese scrawl, even if she was fairly sure Jack didn’t read or speak the language. ‘Feels like ages since I last wrote, what with everything that goes on here every day. I sometimes forget how long it’s been,’ she added, blushing at the admission.
‘What do you tell your mother?’ Jack asked, sounding genuinely curious and not the slightest bit like he was fishing for intelligence.
‘Just that I’m working hard, busy with lots of fascinating research projects, enjoying living and working in Cardiff. You know, nothing too specific.’
‘And are you?’ Jack asked. ‘Enjoying being here? I don't doubt you work hard and that your curiosity is being well nourished, but…’
‘Of course!’ she quickly replied. ‘This job, working with you… It’s the best thing that could have happened to me. Mind you, if I could have done it without getting my mother kidnapped and held for ransom, spending months locked up in that UNIT prison… Luckily she doesn’t remember any of that now.’
‘Don’t forget to tell her that you love her,’ Jack said. ‘That’s important.’
