Summary: Jack despairs at the reunion he never dreamed would come. A double drabble.
So this is what it has come to, Jack thought, tears spilling down his face as he clutched his brother in his arms. Kits when he had come to accept that he had no family in this world, or in any other, the one person he loved most in this world had been brought back to him, corrupted beyond repair.
He stroked the slackened face he hadn't seen in over two thousand years, feeling the harsh stubble of a man, yet seeing the remnant features of the boy he'd once known. He would have recognised Gray no matter how many years passed and how much happened in between.
It was horribly cruel to know that now they were finally together again would be the moment when they must part once and for all. Jack couldn't let Gray wake. He had too much hate in his heart – for Jack and for the entire world. It had to be this way. As much as he longed to have his family back, he knew that for the sake of everyone that apart was how things must stay. The greatest price to pay was Jack's, for simply having let go of a child's hand.
