Summary: Ianto gives Jack cause to doubt himself. A triple drabble.
Jack didn't like to admit it but he quite enjoyed the way Ianto prowled around his office, finding things to tidy or fix. It gave him time to admire the perfect cut of that suit without it being obvious.
This evening they were alone. Jack was putting up with Ianto rearranging the paperbacks on the shelf behind him, and as he turned he caught a small smirk on that handsome face. 'What are you smiling about?'
'Nothing,' came the plaintive reply, sliding a well worn copy of "War of the worlds" into place at the end of the row.
Jack turned back to his computer, looking at the open windows. 'Were you just reading my Captain's log over my shoulder?' Those were his private notes, not for general consumption.
'You're the one that left it open on the screen.'
Jack couldn't find a counter argument. 'And what did you read that's so amusing?'
"Other Staff issues: Now that we have all tried, it is clear that only Ianto knows how to operate that damn coffee maker. I suspect it contains alien technology," Ianto read aloud, doing a rather good impression of Jack's pseudo American accent. 'Good to know that you need someone like me.'
Jack chuckled, somehow relieved to know that Ianto wasn't trying to spy on sensitive information, merely amused by Jack's observations. 'I'll always need someone like you, Ianto Jones.' What Jack really meant by it even he couldn't say for certain, but he was glad to have Ianto around. 'Now, go home and get some rest. I'll need you here bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow to keep the troops caffeinated.'
Ianto nodded, smiled and began walking towards the door when Jack caught the muttered words "alien technology, really."
Jack frowned. Well, it must have been, surely.
