torchwood100Summary: Ianto decides to treat them to a night on the town after a windfall gain. A triple drabble.
‘I think it’s high time we clocked off, Ianto Jones,’ Jack said, giving the off button on his laptop a press with flourish. Spent a little bit of time attending to other things on our to-do list. A list that in Jack’s mind was getting longer by the week.
‘Let’s go out for dinner tonight,’ Ianto said, already reaching for his coat as if the debate was over.
‘Go out?’ Ianto never wanted to go out. He was a “let’s order pizza and stay in’ kind of guy. ‘Go out where?’
‘That nice French place in town?’ It was more of a question than a statement, leaving room for Jack to make a counter offer.
‘Pricey,’ Jack replied, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Had he missed a birthday or an anniversary or something? He wracked his brain and came up empty.
‘Yes, well, I’ve got five hundred quid burning a hole in my pocket and thought it might be nice if we treated ourselves. Plus enough left over for a night in the St David’s Hotel deluxe suite?’
Jack frowned at this sudden excess. ‘Okay, help me out here. Why do you suddenly have a whole lot of money in your pocket that needs spending?’
Ianto grinned. ‘Well, after you told me to ditch all those boxes of books taking up space in your bunker, that’s what I did. Except I took them to a proper bibliopole and cashed in several rare first editions.’ He grinned again. ‘And you called them junk.’
Jack scoffed and sputtered at the sudden windfall. ‘Well, they were junk,’ he replied. He’d had steamer trunks full of them for years, most inherited from Torchwood leaders long dead.
‘And now they're a tidy profit.’ Ianto extended a hand. ‘Shall we?’
Jack took it. ‘Let’s.’
