Summary: Owen is getting frustrated by protocol. A double drabble.
Owen felt a bit silly, standing there and trying to conduct a serious medical examination of their latest visitors at Jack’s behest. None of them looked ill or injured from what he could see, and they all spoke rather good English for a bunch of aliens, but that wasn’t what was making his job difficult.
‘You need to talk to them in whispered voices,’ Jack warned him. ‘As quiet as you can be. They’re very easily offended by loud noises and voices.’
Owen snorted. ‘Well, I hope you packed Myfanwy off to some pterodactyl pet motel so she doesn’t start swooping and screeching.’ God knows what they must have thought of Cardiff with all its cars and people. They weren’t going to be getting a great Trip Advisor rating.
Owen’s trouble was that though he was being as quiet as he could, he could barely hear their answers to his questions regarding their physical condition. He must have repeated himself a dozen times. They surely must have thought he was the most unqualified doctor they’d ever met. The frustration was getting to him, making his voice louder from sheer annoyance.
He thrust his stethoscope at the alien. ‘Talk into that!’
