Notes: A series of vignettes that have shaped the people they are today

Graffiti, gangs, domestic violence, drugs, alcohol, theft, poverty. If you grew up on an estate, you just came to expect those things. Kids didn't have proper childhoods surrounded by that. You either learned to steer clear to survive it, or it sucked you under.

They lived on the nicer part of the estate, but Ianto couldn't avoid it. He was angry with his father, seemingly never pleased with his efforts. It grew and festered inside him until he couldn't take it anymore.

Getting caught up with a gang spared him being in the house, but robbed him of his innocence.

All these were great, and they were all quite different. Surprisingly - for me - I liked Gwen's the best.

Love her or hate her, she's still an interesting character. I think if she'd stayed on the police force, she'd have become a really good officer. Torchwood tends to skew your mindset and you do lose touch with real life a bit.

Ianto had a rough start to life, and yet once he escaped the estate, he really made something of himself. Just ges to show what's possible if you're willing to make the effort and do what it takes.
