Summary: Jack is in a bind about whether the colour of flowers says too much or not enough.
Jack wasn't entirely sure that Ianto was the kind of man that liked flowers, at least insofar as they were gifted as an expression of love, or in this case perhaps apology for Jack's oftentimes aloof behaviour which no doubt left Ianto wondering whether Jack loved him at all; which of course he did, more than he'd ever expected to love another person, and hadn't done for a very long time, having sworn off ever getting that close to another person again, knowing that it would only end in heartache for everyone concerned.
They weren't red roses at least, Jack thought as he gripped the cellophane and tissue paper wrapped bunch of flower with some trepidation, wondering if maybe they should have been red roses and not the selection of white, yellow and blue he'd chosen instead, thinking that red roses were unmistakably declarative and didn't leave any room for interpretation.
Feeling a sudden uneasy worry, he waited until Ianto's desk was unoccupied, unable to face the probable awkwardness of handing them over in person and having to explain himself, placing them there with reverence and hoping beyond hope that Ianto would understand exactly what Jack's complicated but fragile heart was trying to tell him.
