Summary: Owen's excitement isn't shared by the team. A double drabble.
‘Hey, you guys!’ Owen called down from the doorway of the hothouse. ‘Come here quick!’
In typical Torchwood fashion, no one questioned the demand, all throwing themselves out of their desk chairs and jogging up the metal stairway. Jack came armed with his webley, Gwen with her automatic, and Tosh and Ianto unarmed, but ready for anything.
‘What is it?’ Jack asked, serious expression on his face as he instinctively surveyed the space for danger.
Owen pointed. ‘Look, it's got a flower,’ he said, referring to a spindly looking plant with a squat, gnarled green nub poking out of the top of it.
‘That’s what you called us up here for?’ Tosh asked. ‘A flower?’
‘An ugly flower,’ Jack added, holstering his gun.
‘Oi,’ Owen complained. ‘It's never done that before. Been here longer than I have.’
They all started at it, wondering if Owen hadn’t lost his mind being cooped up here with his plants.
‘Think I'll stick to roses,’ Ianto said, breaking the silence. There were nods and murmurings of agreement.
‘Never took you for a romantic, Ianto,’ Jack mused.
‘A man’s allowed to like flowers. Attractive ones, at least.’
Owen harrumphed. ‘Fine. Last time I share anything.’
