Summary: Tosh is disappointed that their ship can't be fixed. A double drabble.
‘It's no use, Jack,’ Tosh said, sliding out from the underside of the spacecraft, brushing her wrist across her forehead and inadvertently leaving behind a black smudge. She'd been staring at bits of mechanics for so long she felt like her eyes were permanently crossed and all the blood had gone to her head.
‘Let me take a look,’ he offered, pulling her to her feet and taking up her spot on the wheeled trolley, sliding back underneath with a spanner in one hand and a torch in the other. He was under there a long while, clanging and clattering, sometimes swearing, before rolling himself back out. ‘The heat exchange is totally kaput. Wouldn't make it past the upper atmosphere without the hull losing integrity and coming to pieces.’
Tosh sighed. ‘Just think how handy it would have been to have a ship like this. Now all we can do is salvage it for parts in the event that we ever get another one of these come through the rift in need of fixing.’ She heaved a disappointed sigh. ‘Which isn't very likely.’
‘Never say never, Tosh,’ Jack replied brightly. ‘The next ailing spaceship could be just around the corner.’
