torchwood100Summary: Things sometimes happen quicker than you realise. A double drabble.
Gwen’s arm continued to vibrate long after the machine gun had stopped firing and long after the Dalek in front of her had become completely frozen, as if it had become stuck in an invisible jelly.
She must have been standing there just starting into space because Ianto’s hand came and rested on her shoulder. ‘You okay?’ he asked.
She blinked, feeling the vibration in her arm become a dull ache as she stretched it out, trying to ease the pain. ‘Yes, I think so.’ She turned and met his gaze, seeing his pale face still trying to come to terms with their near death encounter. ‘It’s weird,’ she said. ‘Everything we’ve seen, but this was the first time I felt like I saw my life flashing before my eyes.’ That Dalek had been going to kill them, that was a certainty. Even with their guns, there was almost no chance they were going to survive, but they’d go down fighting.
She shivered involuntarily. Ianto moved in and gave her one of his awkward hugs. She returned it much more tightly than she expected. They were both here, still alive, still with a hope they might make it out alive.
