Summary: Gwen gets caught up in an argument about semantics. A double drabble.
‘We don’t really know that much about it,’ Tosh said as she tried to fill in their morning briefing with what they did know about the alien artefact that they'd picked up three days ago. She’d been working tirelessly to distil its properties and come up with very little. ‘Jack might have been able to shed light on it…’
‘Well, that’s sod all use, Tosh,’ Owen grumbled. ‘Jack’s disappeared on us.’
‘Owen…’ Gwen’s tone was laced with a warning to back down. If they started fighting amongst themselves, they were lost. ‘It’s not Tosh’s fault he’s disappeared.’
‘He hasn’t disappeared,’ came the sudden outburst from Ianto, who hadn’t spoken at all during the two hour long briefing. ‘He’s gone away. He had a backpack with him and he was running towards the thing as if it was about to leave without him. He left willingly.’
Gwen placed a hand gently on his arm. ‘Ianto, no one is disputing what we all saw happen. Yes, he’s gone away, but he’ll be back, yeah?’ She looked around the room silently pleading for the rest of them to express similar beliefs but their avoidant stares told her that she was on her own.
